LATEST: “Massive effort” needed to protect Fargo as Red River could crest at 40 feet

By admin

The Fargo Inforum Newspaper posted THIS
story today.

“It’s going to be a massive effort to protect the city to 40 feet,” Mayor Dennis Walaker said.

The crest in Fargo would top the 1997 flood level, and the potential for a 40-foot crest for the Red River in Fargo is about a 50-50 chance.

The city is asking for volunteers to help fill sandbags starting at 8 a.m. Friday.

To make things worse, the crest date has been moved forward a week. Kare 11 reports:

“It was kind of shocking — not as much as the elevation was concerned, but moving this thing from the first week to second week in April, back to March 28,” Walaker said. “That really creates an awful lot of heat under our people and our staff.”

In the meantime, Blue Fox is busy mobilizing Lake Minnetonka volunteers to help Fargo and the Red River Valley with their impending disaster.
